Navigating the software

There are two main ways to navigate the Novel Factory software:

  • The main navigation
  • The user menu

The Main Navigation

The main navigation is the vertical black bar along the left-hand side of the software (this turns into a compact hamburger menu on mobile devices).

This is what you use to move between the main sections of the software.

Items on this menu are as follows:

  • Roadmap
  • Premise and Synopses
  • Plot Manager
  • Subplot Manager
  • Manuscript
  • Characters
  • Locations
  • Items
  • Notes
  • Statistics
  • Recycle Bin

Each of these sections is explained in detail in the Sections of The Novel Factory section of this knowledge base.

The User Menu

The user menu can be found in the top right-hand corner of the software. Its icon is a little person.

Clicking on this causes a dropdown menu to appear, with further options.

These options are things you are less likely to want to use on a daily basis and which don’t relate to the specific project you have open, but to your Novel Factory account in general.

Items on this menu are as follows:

  • My Novels
  • Install Desktop Version
  • Export
  • Manage My Account
  • Help Manual
  • Contact
  • Logout

You can find a brief description for each of these below.

My Novels

This is where you can edit the information for your novel(s) and create additional novels if you are on a Standard level plan or above (Basic plans are restricted to one novel only).

Install Desktop Version (this option may not be visible, depending on where you are viewing the menu)

This is where you can find instructions for downloading the desktop version of the software. You can also view these instructions here.

Export

This is where you can export your Novel Factory project to allow you to print it or work on it in different formats.

Manage My Account

This option will open up a new window where you can update your profile information, manage your subscription (including cancelling and updating payment information) and view your billing history.

Help Manual

This is where you can view our complete help manual and search for articles by keyword.

Contact

This is where you can contact us, including sending us technical diagnostics. Please note that you can also get in touch using the pink ‘Feedback’ button, which can be easier than sending an email.

Logout

Use this button when you wish to log out from the software. If you are using The Novel Factory on multiple devices, we recommend logging out before you log in elsewhere to avoid any issues with data syncing.
